About Me
Professor Abiodun Akinpelu Denloye (Ph.D, M.Sc., B.Sc (Hons), FESN, FSEAN, FNiBSA) is a distinguished academic, researcher, and educational administrator. In July 2023, he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), where he also serves as Professor of Zoology in Biological Sciences. He specializes in Public Health and Applied Entomology, Pest Management, Biosecurity, and Biological Risk (Biorisk) Management.
Prior to joining LASUSTECH, Professor Denloye served with distinction at Lagos State University (LASU) for over three decades (1990 – May 2023), progressing through academic ranks to become Full Professor of Zoology and Environmental Biology in 2016. He earned his Ph.D. in Zoology (Applied Entomology & Pest Management, 2008) and M.Sc. in Zoology (Entomology, 1990) from the University of Lagos, Akoka, and his B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology (1988) from Lagos State University. Earlier in his career, he served as Farm Supervisor with Agunloye Farms (1989–1990) and worked as a Reporter/Researcher and Associate Editor with the Concord Group (1990–1996), covering science, health, and environment.
A pioneer in biosafety and biosecurity advocacy in Africa, Professor Denloye played a leading role in establishing the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) in 2010, serving as pioneer Secretary, Vice President, and subsequently as President (Fellow) of NiBSA (2019–2024). He holds professional certifications in Biosecurity (2018) and Biorisk Management (2016) from the International Federation for Biosafety Associations (IFBA), and is an internationally certified Trainer and Shipper of Biological Specimens. In addition, he was trained on GMO biosafety regulatory decision-making by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy, and on Chemical Threat Readiness Leadership by Sandia National Laboratories, USA.
Professor Denloye's international and national advisory engagements include serving as West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) Consultant on Technical Assistance Missions to strengthen Biosafety and Biosecurity in Liberia and The Gambia (2026), Governing Council Member of the Emergency, Crises and Disaster Risk Management Institute, Abuja (2026 – Present), and Chairman of the LASU Biosafety Research Ethics Committee (BREC) (2021–2023). On 17th February 2026, he delivered LASUSTECH's First Inaugural Lecture titled "Lessons From Ants: Odyssey of an Insect Hunter."

"My mission is to advance knowledge and understanding of the natural world through insect studies, while promoting conservation and sustainable practices. Through research, teaching, and community engagement, I strive to inspire the next generation of scientists and environmental stewards. My research focuses on studying safety, insect control strategies, ecology, and conservation biology. By conducting cutting edge scientific investigations, I aim to contribute to the global understanding of biodiversity, biosafety, biosecurity and the factors that promote their understanding through design and development of fitting curricula."
He is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (FESN), Fellow of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (FNiBSA), and Fellow of the Society for Educational Administrators of Nigeria (FSEAN). Outside academia, he actively engages in birding, reading, writing, and travelling.
